Hello all,

I started running about 3 months ago for the first time ever outside, im really enjoying it and managing about 4 runs a week roughly 20 mile in total. The furthest ive ran is 6 miles in 59 mins. I enjoy running with friends and sometimes my mum joins me on my bicycle. Is this too slow to join you?

Many thanks

Laura

Hi Laura

Glad to see you are enjoying your running, that is the main thing aswell as the fitness etc, etc.

The answer to your post 'should I join' is a definite 'YES'. Now that Winter is upon us the benefits of joining a club are massive. Theres the safety aspect but also there are those nights where you tend to put off your run, but when its club night you still tend to go no matter what the weather.

Due to the various training sessions we do you will be amazed at how much you improve over a short space of time. These sessions are things you probably wouldnt do on your own and within a group situation you tend to try that bit harder too.

The amount of effort you put in is entirely up to you, we have a club coach (Frank) and some very experienced runners and plenty of friendly club members to offer advice and encouragement. As a member you can attend both sessions (Mon & Wed) every week or like a lot of members just get down when you can. We all have busy lives with work and families etc, so its whatever suits you. One thing I can be sure of is that you will not regret it.

The club has a large mix of abilities and ages and at the moment there are slightly more females than males.

The best thing to do is to let us know when you would like to come down and we will know to look out for you and let you know where to go and park etc.

Hopefully see you soon

Okay Laura that should be fine. If you get down to Central fitness at about 6:50pm let the receptionist know that your there to join the Striders, you'll sign in and be let through. You'll find everyone waiting just through the second door. Just let one of the Striders know that its your first time and they'll explain everything and introduce you to the club captain and coach etc.

Most members turn up in their running gear ready to go although there are changing rooms and lockers if you need them. If youre coming by car the best place to park is opposite the Police station on College Street which is free after 6pm.

You wont need any money for joining etc until you've been down a few times and tried it out.

I wont be down on Monday myself but there will be plenty of Members etc to meet you. If you decide to come back on Wednesday I will see you then.

Cheers

John Smee
