I'm Jo Billinge's sister and am studing HND in Sports Sciences/Sports Therapy and want to let you guys know that we are starting a clinic at St Helens College in November.  I think it will be on a wednesday and you will be able to come and get Sports massage for maintainence and also treatment for injuries.  It's FREE ! our tutor is a top Sports therapist and has his own clinic where he works with top professional athletes so you can be assured you will be getting a quality treatment.

In the meantime, if you have any sports related injuries you want to ask me about, please ask, im just learning so i may have to get back to you or refer you on - but i'm keen to help in any way.

I also need case studies and will post seperatley about this,

cheers, Bernie

Hi Bernie,

I have been with the striders since May but when I got back from my 2 week holiday in corfu in August which i did no runnng, I started getting a sore achilles.

I tried to keep running but it got more painful. I got round the GNR eventually but have not ran for the last 6 weeks.

Being for a run today, its a lot better but I can still feel a bit of soreness

I intend to start running again with the striders next week again,

I was wondering, that when I was younger (in my teens) I was a professional footballer and snapped the same ankle as I am now having problems with.

Could it be related.

Any advice on getting rid of it completely would be appreciated.

Mike

hi, yes it could be realted to the injury in your teens - scar tissue could have built up inside and around the tendon which sometimes can be there for a long time before it starts giving you probs.  If you can answer me a few questions i'll speak to my tutor for you - in the meantime - use ice on it after running - try massaging the area yourself (you can use ordinary sunflower oil) If it seems to soften the area after a massage that's good, if it makes it more tender - leave the massage for now.

How long ago did u have the injury and what exactly did you do ?

Is this the first time since that you've had probs with it ?

How long have you been runnin ?

and a long shot silly question........

what shoes did you wear when on holiday ? only asking cos you may have strained it while on hols mincing about in flip flops ! anyway...... if not, please get back tom me thru here or im on facebook and if you like I can book you into our clinic which starts in November and we can have a look at it ?

Hope this helps and thanks for asking me,

Bernie
