Im new to this forum, Really having problems with my shins at the sides and lower half of the shin. I can run about 4 miles before the pain kicks in, but cant run for several days after. I started running in april 2008, which included 5k through to half marathons and never suffered any pain at all. I then stopped runnning in January of this year and started again roughly last month, im trying to achieve half marathon standard again but this shin problem is getting in the way of my training plan. Do you think the pain is just weak calve muscles because i have not ran for a while or it is shin splints. Any advice would be greatly received.
Could be shin splints, I used to play 5-a-side football 3 times a week on a hard surface which gave me shin splints. Its caused by the impact of your shin with the ground, small fragments of bone splinter off your shin. Aparently lots of soldiers suffer with it from the marching and parading etc. in hard soled boots. Badly cushioned trainers, in my case meant no football for weeks, forget running. I then got myself some good quality trainers and now I run lots of miles without any pain. I would suggest you go to your doc tho', professional diagnosis is important, you dont want to make things worse by doing the wrong thing.
