Hi all,

Thinking of joining a running club again to get ready for next year.  I over did it this year and got a few injuries, so ideally I'd like to start off slowly and build up gradually with an aim to be in good shape for the Four Villages Half in January.

When you go out how far do you cover and do you interval training?

How much is membership and are there any subs to pay each session?

Is there parking where you meet and is it free?

No more questions!

Cheers,

Ian

Hi Ian

I started training with the 'striders' 2 weeks ago. You'll probably get more info from one of the other members when they read this but I'll let you know what I know.

Distances and types of training vary quite a bit. We follow a preset training plan each month.

Membership is £25 for the year with nothing else to pay at all.

Parking is available and is free.

The members vary in ability, you can do as much or as little as you choose.

I would suggest you come down and give it whirl.

John

Hi Ian,

John pretty much answered your questions, !! We do intervals of varying lengths i.e 1 mile reps with recoveries, or say pyramid training  (6mins at effort, 2 min rec, then 5mins, 4,3,2,1) or shorter efforts i.e 1 min with 30 secs rec,we also do indian file which is really good for quick blast efforts. all in all its very varied, sometimes we just run!! we cover on average between 5 and 8 miles, longer in the summer months, the 8 being a steady run and the shorter distance being a session. We generally do a mile or so warm up to the point where the session will begin and then have a mile or so cool down back to the club. As John says you can pretty much work at your level as we regularly re group and the faster runners will always come back if they 'accidently'!! get to far ahead!!
come down and give us a try out! Mondays and Wednesdays 7 pm at central fitness.

Hi Ian

Thanks for posting. I think all the info has been covered really- we send out a training plan for every month so members roughly know what they are going to be covering. This is very helpful if you are training for a particular race (say a half marathon) and you want to include certain sessions.

We are very friendly and always like to see new faces. With winter coming, I am always glad I train with other people as it gets too dark to go out by myself!!

Hope to see you at the club soon.

Rach

Thanks for the quick responses!  I will be joining.  However, due to work commitments I won't be able to make it until the 21st.  I will see you all then!
