I started running early 2006 and did my first marathon this year so don't worry about being new to running. I think there is a thread on here with comments about this years marathon- John wisely says that the best thing you need for a marathon is respect. 26 miles is a long way, but with training and focus there is no reason why you cannot complete it. I followed a training programme, there are lots on runners world (runnersworld.co.uk) that you can use. They range between 16-20 weeks worth of training. Most people start to train in the new year for the april race.
In the mean time, all I can suggest is that you keep running and keep your mileage steady so that in January you are ready to start training. The worst thing to do is to start to early , as you may get frustrated and bored more easily- or too late for that matter!
Anyone else got any tips?
Of course I did find it easier running with a club twice a week, and then Chris got a place in the marathon too so we did alot of our long runs together at the weekend. If you can do some training with someone else it does help. Are you local to the area?
