As the Chorley series draws to a close we are looking for further suggestions to keep us going into the autumn.

Races sould be within the North West and of a distance that isn't too challenging for those of us working at improving fitness or getting fitness back.

Leave your suggestions in this thread, and if you have entered the race...

let's try and get as many runners as possible with the full grand prix total in as well .As a challenge I'm aiming to complete the grand prix this year, so far I haven't got a single qualifying race in...

Hello
What races do you have to complete for the Grand Prix? Will keep my  eyes out for new races. I know this year there is the first ever great yorkshire run to be held in sheffield. Its a ten km. Think it is second week in september. There is also the Liverpool ten km, first week in oct?

I think I may have found an interesting race.....
The Cumberland Ale Ten km
Each person who finishes gets a bottle of Cumberland Ale smile

It cost £4 to enter and we I guess we can go for a pub lunch afterwards. The date is Sunday 9th September.
It's limit is 100 competitors though so it does sound like a small race and if we all entered we would take up about 15% of the positions.

Also, if members have actually entered a race start a new thread stating which race you have entered.this may encourage more members to come along and make a bit of a show for Striders....

out of the list Dawn has posted I've entered the Trafford 10k and the Royal Manchester Children's Half Marathon.

Greetings,

I'm doing Birchwood 10k on Sunday. Nice, flat course with quite a large entry ( 1000 limit ). I've entered on the day in the past. Not done it for about 4 years but it is a good race from what I remember.

Doing Helvellyn Tri with Karl ( not sure why.... I hate hills.... numpty ! )

I'm thinking of doing Macc 1/2. Done it last 2 years, bit hilly but quite scenic. Unfortunately Swinton 1/2 is on the same day I think, 30/9

1 week after Macc, 7/10 ( ? ) Congleton 1/2. Again done it last 2 years. There is a short uphill at 12M ' sting in the tail '. It's quite a fast course IMHO and I got a PB there 2 years ago.

Any of you fancy a sprint Tri ?

There is a small local event in Newton - Le - Willows, something to cut your teeth on ? Ask me or Karl if you fancy a go. Link :-

http://www.xtramileevents.com/events_calendar_detail.asp?id=4

Considering the following :-

Gin Pit 14/10
Green Drive 5, Lytham 21/10
Holmfirth 15, 28/10

Anybody fancy These ?

Martin

Anyone doing the Birchwood via an on the day entry had better be early.I believe they already have 850 pre enteries and the limit is 1000.

Am mulling over Congleton, Gin Pit almost certain. The St Annes five is a great course, flat as a pankcake if you like that sort of thing.

As for the sprint tri i'll have to ask my 8 year old if I can borrow her Barbie bike for the cycling section.

Here goes...

02/09: Achenseelauf (any races after this date depend on how I will be feeling after completing this! Take a look at the site http://www.achenseelauf.at/)

09/09: Trafford 10km (maybe...)
16/09: My birthday so no races there smile
30/09 Great North Run
07/10 Liverpool 10km
14/10- Where is Gin Pit ??
27/10- Standish Hall Autumn Trail Race. Had a look at this on runners world and it
takes place through bridle tracks and woodland. Might make a change to the usual road races- possible striders race here?
4/11 Decided I would like to do the Derwen****er 10km, I havent done many scenic races
2/12: Liverpool Santa Dash. It's not really a race but it is really good fun and also an attempt at a Guiness record - we broke it last year aww

Good Luck to those doing the Birchwood this weekend.
Hope you are recovering well Frank. You might not believe us but we have been sticking to the training schedule!

Rach

Just had a look... postal closing date for Gin Pit was the 10 July (bit early). Might be worth while contacting the organisers and seeing what places are left, or looking at the website http://www.astleyrunners.co.uk

Standish is 10km, postal closing date is 22nd Oct so plenty of time for that.
It's £4 or £6 if you want to do the winter trail race too. Something to discuss at the meeting anyway.

Standish is a good race, although be warned its only an 'approx' 10k.Most people reckon it's nearer 7 miles, and it's tough.

Tom,Dawn and I did it last year.Dawn nearly beat up the marshalls at the endbiggrinbiggrin

it may be worthwhile looking at other races than the Gin Pit if it's going to be a mad rush to get in...

Derwen****er is a 10 mile - but best race of the year for me - gutted double booked with a date with Harry connuick Jnr.

Standish is good, all types of terrain and undulations. Only problem I think is all the early finishers run back along the path you are returning on - which is very rutted and ditches full of water - my kind of terrain but not in the last stretch when your trying to skim a  sec or 2 of your time, the early runners force you to swerve all over the path and run in your way............very annoying - should not be alloweed on the route until last runner finished. They obviously avoiding the puddles you have to run through them!!
enough of the rant, you all know me.

i'm interested in the mini tri, just cannot swim, maybe a team effort. I'll check out the link.
Unpredicatable to confirm races due to house move, at this rate will prov=balby last until next house move.
