Just bought an entry level racing bike with the idea of improving my fitness and to take part in the Duathalon series along Rainford bypass in Winter and one in March at Parbold Hill.
Any advice welcome on how to combine cycling and running training. Has anyone ever participated in these events ?
We are trying a cycle event tonight and going off the weather forecast . swimming may be involved.will be happy to show you some good cycling routes john.
Its a Carrera TDF Limited Edition, got some decent reviews from buyers and recommended to me by a friend whos in a cycling club. It was on offer too. Ive been to work on it today (Warrington - 11 miles) and managed to dodge the rain. Well impressed with these fancy gear changers, not what I was used to with a £99 mountain bike.
Its looking like the Striders could have a new cycling section.
Thats it!!! i'm gonna have to reinstate the racer!!! , my mountain bike is chained to the landing ,ive not done much cycling this year at all, I entered the bypass dualthlon a few years ago but had flu ( seriously!!) so I never got to do it, I loved the cycle/run part of the Tri last year but like you John, swimming is not my cup of tea , i'm so bad at it and look so crap doin breast stroke aka "doggy paddle" in a proper event when all around are cutting thro the water effortlessley!!!
Until I get a road bike again if your doin any off roading i will come along for the fun on my tractor tyred mountain bike !!
clare where have you got yours from and what kind is it??

two big downpours at Walkden and Kirkham.then no more ran from Blackpool home. good event though .under a 1000 so not as many muppets on cycles or in the cars.
Hi John, after talking with you last week here is my ten pence worth.
It defo improves your fitness, which in turn improves your running times!! Good for cross training instead of a recovery run down side is with dark nights approaching you maybe limited to weekends plus your session would need to be longer than a equivalent run.
Never done the dualthlon but defo interested, need a bit of variety after the marathon.
If you are going to train through the winter you need the right clothing were talking lycra!! it can get really cold especially on morning rides were the temp is below 5 degrees (windchill) so take a look at Aldi's website they are having there annual winter cycling kit offer this Thursday it includes jackets, winter tights, gloves, lights, locks etc.......
Aldi have their cycling gear stuff on sale tomorrow. Go to their website which has all the offers. I'm going to get some although my bike still hasn't arrived yet.
Chris (my husband) has just got his bike & is going to go on a 20 mile bike ride with his friend on Sat 8th Oct. He said to let you know and you are more than welcome to join them. They are both newbies to biking as well.
Will be right on it, down to Aldi. Going to be needing some Winter clothing.
Tell Chris thanks but I'll be working. Ive bagged a new job so wont be working Saturdays for much longer so maybe in a month or so I'll join them although my intention is to bike to work everyday and get some running in at the weekend.
All i can say John is that you must one hell of an easy job no doubt sat in a nice warm office if you can afford to bike to work everyday Have a good weekend
