As I am sure some of you are already aware, the countdown to the London Olympics 2012 has begun. In exactly one years time, the Olympic torch is due to start its 70 day journey across the UK- going through our towns, villages and cities. 95% of the UK will be within an hour of seeing the relay procession and I know that it is coming through Liverpool and Manchester.
In order to make this happen, the Olympics committee are looking for 8000 people to be part of the Olympic Torch relay. In order to be part of this process, people need to be nominated on the website. They are looking for ordinary people doing extra ordinary things- has someone inspired you, tried to be the best they can be, made a real difference to a school, community or club etc etc.
We all know someone who gives their all- and inspires other as they do so. Lets give them their moment to shine.
I am more than confident that we have members within the club that we could put forward for this amazing opportunity. Nominations have to be in by 29th June 2011 and then a shortlist of potential Torchbearers is put through a ballot process. Candidates find out in December if they are picked.
So, what have we got to lose? If you have a spare 5 minutes have a think about who you might want to nominate (you have to tell them as you will need their details to hand when applying online).
The one person from St Helens more than any other who I believe to be worthy of this incrediable honour is
Mr Ste Prescott
The way this man has handed himself throughout his illness raising awarness and lots and lots of cash for his foundations two charities should be an inspiration to us all
