Hi, your sister said i could message you, she said you fix people I have been to see a physio and he said my injury was caused from overpronating and i have a stiff toe he gave me some ultrasound on my ankle which helped with the pain and told me to wear wedge heal shoes after a couple of days of seeing him i could walk without limping, he recommended i see a podiatrist, also to buy new trainers i bought the best ones i could find for over pronation and i had a quick assesment done with a podiatrist who did my gait and said i was still over pronating with my new trainers on and that my ankles / feet were to flexible causing my calf's to work harder which was causing my achillies pain, he also said i needed insoles at a total cost of £240. i have started running again now only doing a few miles at a time, and i am doing achillies and calf stretches daily. l have not got the pain in my ankles so much now it seems to be in my heel,s and after running in my calf's. I did the injury the middle of december, i have not booked to have the bio mechanical thingy or the insoles yet i was going to give the stretches and trainers some time to see if that would be enough, do you think i should carry on or get the insoles done?
There are a couple of things it could be - one is plantar faciitis which i'm sure the "professionals" have mentioned to you. Personally, I would hold off on the inserts for a bit. Having them in your shoes wont fix your problem at the moment, they might prevent it from happening in future though. What I would advise you probably wont like, but it's the only way to fix it and prevent further damage to your ligaments....
You need pretty much complete rest - no stretching either....and it will heal completely, massage the area with ice cubes (it does the same as ultra sound) for no longer than 15 mins every two hrs or as often as you can manage but at least a 2hr gap in between.. Do this for the next few days or until the pain has eased. Dont take anti inflamatories as these will slow down the healing process, the ice will work....Then you need heat and massage to get the blood flow moving again - and build up from there depending on how it feels. I cant tell what it is properly unless I have a look and see your range of movement ect , but the rest and ice will work if you do it properly. If you want to book in for heat/massage treatment after yourve done the ice for a few days, please let me know, sorry its not what you want to hear, but it just wont heal if you dont rest it first : (
Thank you for your advice i will get to work with ice straight away, i have been taking diclofenac which the doc gave me in dec, i will stop taking them, why does it slow the healing down is it because it masks the pain? The heat massage sounds good i will do the ice and rest for a few day's and then book to come and see you if thats ok?
hi donna, thats great re ice, it will really help, yes the painkillers and anti inflams do mask the pain but they also slow down your heart rate and blood flow which makes healing process much slower.
ALSO, was speaking to another sports therapist this mornin and mentioned your condition and she said if you wanted to you could ring Salford University Sports Therapy Department and make an appointment to see the 3rd year podiatry students, they will give you a FULL assessment AND do your inserts for £25.00. Their facilities are fantastic i believe, im hoping do my 3rd yr there : )
Let me know how you get in with the ice and yes, my mobile is 07786044277 if you want to book in for treatment, good luck with it, Bernie
Hi Bernie, thanks so much for that, i have mangaged to get an appointment on friday i will let you know how i get on...i am still using the ice but not as much as you recommended its impossible to find the time to do it, am trying the freeze gel today for when i can't use ice. I have put your number in my phone i will ring you about a massage next week.
hiya, thats great you got an appointment, i know its a pain doing the ice isnt it, but as often as you can will do, please let me know how you get on at salford and yes give us a bell when youre ready, good luck Bernie : )
It went well at salford, the students were nice, they had a look at my feet and had a little chat with each other i heard them mention plantar faciitis but then there tutor came in watched me walk up and down and said oh yes thats simply blah blah blah.. i had never heard of the words he was using but he said that the insoles would solve my problem and that it is very common, i think it was because my ankles are flexible causing me to over pronate when running am going back in 2weeks to pick them up am not sure of the price breakdown but it will cost £66 in total for 2 visits and the insoles, which is much better than £240 i was quoted. In the mean time i am resting up from running and using the ice, so hopefully in 2weeks when i get the insoles i will be all fixed...when do you think would be a good time for a massage?
