Guys I am working tom morning, on a note of caution 18 miles with the run next Sat is this not a little too far ? I would have thought 13 miles max, Gringleford to all intent is as tough if not tougher than a marathon and you would not dream of running a 20 miler 7 days before doing one of them, I just don't want any of you to overdo it and then be knackered for next week but ignore me if I sound like I am preaching

Yeah i agree with you Gary  you just need a relaxing non demanding run 1 week before a  tough run like Grindleford. because you will not get any benifit from doing 16 +miles, all of your hard work has been done over the previous weeks.
Take it easy and good running

well yes and no, on my training plan my long runs go up in 3 week stages i.e. 16, 18 and then 20 miles, then a recovery week of say 8-10 before you do another 18/20 miler. I guess I am treating grindleford as a 20miler training run rather than a race, hence doing it the week after a 18 as suggested in the plan. other thing is that due to other commitments the farthest i have ran to date is 15 miles so want to get a long run in..... its a catch 22 really!

Gary I KNOW your right!!! Everything tells you to not cram in last minute, and do panic miles, i was having the same discussion on mon at the club unsure of how many t o do. your advice is good and not to be ignored!! Im just gonna head out and see how i feel, i have woke up with a bit of a cold this morning too so will just take it as it comes. and grindelford actually took me longer than m,e marathon time so im defo treating it as a full marathon!!!

and i also get wot Rach means too as its part of marathon training rather than a race, its hard to judge if your doing right for wrong really ,anyway we ended up doin 17.5 so will spend this coming week resting and easy training! but thanks for the advice guys!!
