hi, just for your info I have contacted Ruskin in connection with using their facilities. They were very helpful and keen for us to use thier facilities. They wanted £30.00 PER WEEK !!!!. After I stopped laughing I politely said thanks but no thanks ... If any rich striders would like to pay it on our behalf let me know.
As a matter of interest- how many fee paying striders do we currently have?
£30 x 52 weeks of the year = £1560 If we have 25 members then that equates to £62.50 each for the year.
I know we are used to paying small membership fees but we are going to have to pay more in the future because thats the way the industry is going. Don't forget thats why the YM closed in the first place- we were paying ancient fee's!
I am not sure how much English AA fee's are, maybe Dawn can enlighten us but I guess we would be looking at another £20-£30 on top of that to make membership per person £90 a year. I know that seems a massive increase, but if you think of the facilities (showers, changing room, meeting room, club races, vests, AA fees) it does not seem too bad. And if you go twice a week for at least 30 weeks of the year it makes it £1 a session.
Carol did say however that Ruskin would have to give us a mobile number to call of someone who could let us in/out of the building which is not a route we would want to go down- I have visions of standing outside in gale force winds whilst the security guard is off on a fag break.....
did not want to say anything too bad about Ruskin but even that price is a lot steeper than I thought they it would be. 25 members equates at under a tenner per year at YMCA will keep lookin !!!!
Hi folks, Spoke to Andrew who owns the gym in Lord street, that used to be Nik Naylors. Told him of our plight.. He is willing to let us use the shower/changing rooms and sauna for a pound per person. It is central and has car parking, those striders who wish to avail themselves of the facilities could just pay the pound. This would save our subs as not everyone uses the showers anyway. Those striders who are not on water meter, can just meet up on the car park. Let me know what you think so I can get back to him.
Where abouts is lord St? I have a memory blank!! Think be mucb easier just to pay fee once a year, else people will be scrapping around for £1 coins all the time and sharing lockers. I am sure he could come up with a quote for how many members we have multiplied by number of sessions etc
I will go with meeting at Nik naylors, wonder if he will stretch to us usin the gym for a pound too!! maybe pushing it there!! at least it will feel safer than the corner!! good one!! thanks Carol!
I see what Rach means but, most people drive and it just means keeping a pound coin in the car. There are no lockers, but it has a reception, so it just means not taking valuables. Its off college street and the car park is enclosed and well lighted. Would be good to use the gym for a pound as well !! who knows...
Regarding Peter St ,Clare is waiting for them to get back to us with a price. They can offer us two changeing /shower rooms .They,re not the biggest and there are no lockers ,but we can lock the rooms and take the key with us.There is a car park and a meeting area and it is fairly central .We could have a trial period up Christmas then take it from there.
Looks like Peter St could be a non starter. We would have to pay £12 per week to cover the cost of cleaners wages. This works out at £624 per year which is a lot less than Ruskin but a lot more than wer'e used to paying.Personaly i think we need to have a re-think as to what we need as a base. The £624 is basicaly a cost for shower facilities. How many of us use the showers ?.Could we find a venue where we have use of changeing rooms and pay seperatly for showers?Peter st could offer us a meeting place and use of a well-lit car park.Could we not take them up on this and anyone who want a shower to use the ones at Boundry rd baths?.
How can we use the showers at boundary road? You mean pay them a seperate fee too? Should the cost not be all inclusive, yes some people will use showers more than others but i am sure most will use the WC facilities- I agree that we need to draw the line somewhere.
The cost, I thought, should be subsidised as a club, it will not be fair to have others paying twice as much in the year to be a member than others because they do not live as close and therefore need to use the showers. I know that we are talking alot more money than at the YM but this was why it closed down in the first place. Les did suggest talking to Peter St and seeing if we could do a trial run for a month or so to see how things went and we might be able to barter on price.
Whatever happens needs to be done soon- are at the risk of losing members because the current situation is not ideal. We need to try things out to see if it suits us.
Can we call an emergency meeting??? Not all members have access to the website and unless they have come to recent runs then they won't have a clue as to what is going on??
What about emergency meeting at Peter st ? Could push things along a little. I suggest a look round then perhaps 3 months trial period starting November ! Not seen place yet but we will have to pay more wherever we go
PETER ST SOUNDS OK JUST FOR A BASE, BUT B/BATHS COULD BE A NO GO AS ITS CLOSING DOWN IN OCTOBER. THE YM CLOSED NOT BECAUSE OF "ANCIENT" STRIDER," FEE,S BUT THE INFREQUENT USE OF THE BAR FACILITIE,S.ARE WE HAVING A MEETING AFTER TRAINING ON WEDS ?
We are planning to go to Peter St this Friday @ 5.30-6pm to have a look at the facilities and see if we can give them a trial. Please come along if you are free- I think the more people that can have a look the better.
Hope your leg feels better, might be worth going to see a physio? I know many of us can recommend one for you!!
Hi Roy. Hope your injury is getting better... Spoke to my physio who said firstly stretch out doing 10 lunges on each leg then place a football between your knees and squeeze for the count of ten, do this for about 5 reps and then 10 lunges. If there is no improvement after a week, it could be coming from the lower back..
For anyone who does not know what we are discussing, mind your own business !!!
ratgher than all this to and froing on the message board let us arrange a meeting. Remeber not all memebers have access to internet.
We can arrange for wenesday 22/10 - plenty of notice for everyone. We could sacrifice the run for this evening - meet for an hour meeting and then celebrate John's 60th as we have been discussing. suggestion - meal in the warehouse.
We can have the meeting either in 1 of the rooms in the YMCA or in the coffee shop upstairs.
1. Kate and I have been to the club on the lancs - they never rang back - but did not appear to be suitable at the moment. 2. We both went to Nik Naylors - (he no longer owns it by the way) they never contacted back - but now we have an option from them 3.We both went to the beacon - they also never rang back - though since spoke to someone else and they would expect us to pay the mebership and they close at 9.00pm 4. We also have an option at harsfinch rugby club - but again not the best changing facilites for women
The problem with the rugby clubs as we had with last experience - it is not suitable for women changing. Myself and Honor do need to use the facilities to change and lock valuables as we come straight from work - and this also could be same for any new members.
They do notpromise that the place will be clean after any rugby matches as this will depend on cleaners etc - I'm not willing to pay for lack of service and just a roof over our heads for 5 minutes of our time.
We need to decide what the priority is ie showers, lockers, meeting rooms, accessability etc and cost we can afford I think we have approx 21ish paid members- but we may not have this next year as I'm counting Norma, Mark, Danny, Kevin?
We need to then agee on the majority choice.
I used to train very close to Peters sT and had poor experiences on safety etc - one reason why we moved the the YM gym.
so can we agree on the meeting date - we can also sort out xmas meal at the Abbey - I have the details. It woudl be good to have a good turnout.
I was at training last Monday and it was decided then that we would have a meeting this wednesday to dicuss the new meeting place before going out for a meal at the warehouse for John's birthday.
